The aim of this course is to provide an awareness of a marine diesel engine and enable boat owners to be more self sufficient. The Diesel Engine Maintenance course will give you the ability to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require workshop support.
The course is carried out in a well-equipped workshop, with mechanics who are happy to visit boat owners on their own boats. This short, one-day course concentrates on learning practically, whilst following the RYA syllabus.
Ideally suited for boat owners with no previous experience, the Diesel Engine Maintenance course can potentially save boat owners serious amounts of money in breakdown situations, by giving them the basic knowledge necessary to undertake many easy, yet essential tasks.
The following are the key points from the RYA syllabus and cover what is taught on the course:
- How diesel engines work and basic maintenance
- Fuel, the air and electrical systems
- Engine cooling and controls
- Lubrication and transmission
- Starting and stopping your engine
- Diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Emergency procedures
