Possession of a valid VHF / DSC radio certificate is now a legal requirement in Spain. All boat owners need to have an operators certificate before they apply for the MMSI (Maritime Mobile Safety Identity) number.
The RYA VHF Radio course takes only one day to complete and teaches students the basics of VHF radio operation, which includes the correct frequencies (channels) to be used in emergency and distress situations, plus emergency & medical assistance procedures.
We use real radio equipment rather than simulators so you can become confident in using the various controls and DSC (Digital Selective Calling) functions.
The following are the key points from the RYA syllabus and cover what is taught on the course:
- Digital distress and safety calling
- Inter-ship procedures
- Port operations
- Routine communications
