RYA Coastal Skipper
This is an advanced-skippering course.
This course is aimed at those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigational skills, aspiring towards a ‘Certificate of Competence’.

| Suggested minimum pre-course experience: | 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours |
| Assumed knowledge: | Navigation to Coastal Skipper standard, sailing to Day Skipper practical standard. |
| Course content: | Pilotage by day and night, boat handling, passage planning, safety, emergency situations |
| After course: | Skipper a yacht on coastal waters by day and night |
The Coastal Skipper course concentrates on the techniques and skills required to skipper a yacht on longer coastal and offshore passages. It includes passage planning, pilotage, advanced navigation and dealing with adverse weather and emergency situations. After the course, the successful candidate will be able to skipper a yacht safely on long distance coastal passages by day and by night in tidal waters.
