RYA Powerboat Levels 1 & 2

This course will introduce the newcomer to the sport of power boating, including different types of powerboats, basic boat checks, pre-launch check and basic powerboat handling skills at both low and high speed.

Course: Powerboat Level 1 & 2
Aimed at: Adults and children
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None
Assumed knowledge: None
Course content: Basic navigation, power handling low and high speed
After course: Can skipper and crew a small powerboat in familiar waters by day

Unlike the U. K., Spanish authorities state that boat owner’s should have a license as people do with cars. The water police do make checks, especially in the summer and fines can be issued if you do not have the correct paperwork on board. These documents include a copy of your passport, insurance policy, boat registry certificate and your Power Boat Level Two / ICC license. Slipways will expect these documents before you can launch / lift your boat.

This two-day course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). It includes close-quarters handling, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations.

The course can be carried out on the schools boat or your own and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly. The course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat

The following are the key points from the RYA syllabus and cover what you will be taught during your two days.
